The Reef Design Innovations for Living Shorelines project, led by Dr. Kathy Boyer at the EOS Center, aims to develop innovative new designs for living shorelines. Living shorelines are constructed nature-based shorelines that enhance habitat and shoreline protection. The project aims to reduce the need for heavy, expensive installation equipment using modular, lightweight, and easily portable materials. This project is funded by the State Coastal Conservancy and is a collaboration between local experts from EOS, the Studio for Urban Projects, Smithsonian Environmental Research Center, Environmental Science Associates, and the Conservation Corps North Bay. Activities: We will kick off the day with an introductory presentation on living shorelines. Then we will prepare and assemble the element molds. Finally, we will mix and pour concrete into all the newly-assembled molds. Supervised children are welcome (suitable for ~10 and up).
