Author Peter Cole explores how workers in South Africa and San Francisco ports have harnessed their role in the global economy to promote labor rights and social justice causes. Clarence Thomas, a third generation Oakland longshoreman and a leader of the Black Student Union during the 1968-1969 San Francisco State strike will share his first-hand experience on the docks.
