In an alluring recital, soprano Christine Brandes and pianist Eric Moe explore the intoxicating world of early Modernism featuring a performance of Schoenberg's groundbreaking cycle "The Book of the Hanging Gardens" and the lyric eroticism of Debussy's "Chansons de Bilitis." The program also include excerpts from Schubert's "Schwanengesang" and excerpts from two song cycles by Moe, written for Brandes: "The Sonnets to Orpheus" and "Tough Songs." Featured poets: Pierre Louys, Stefan George, Heinrich Heine, Rainer Maria Rilke (translated by Stephen Mitchell) and Dorianne Laux.
