In this 1967 film, a Red Army cavalry commissar must stay with a Jewish family to give birth and is transformed by the experience of family life. The Soviet government suppressed this movie for 20 years. The School of Cinema opens its The Best of Soviet and Russian Cinema course to the public on Wednesday evenings this fall. The screenings showcase the most memorable works of some of the greatest Russian directors from the 1950s to the present. All films shown with English subtitles. Featured as Cinema 373, the course is taught by Professor Steven Kovacs with graduate student Pavel Koshukov.
